Pets and Apartments How To Make It Work

There’s a terrible rumor that’s been spread for far too long:

Dogs and cats are good pets for homeowners only!

We’re here to tell you that’s just not true.

Cats and dogs are good pets for apartments, too!

You just have to take a few things into consideration before you move to your new apartment.

Below, we’ll share some of the very practical ways you can make your new apartment work for you and your pets!

1. Your Apartment Is Your Pet’s Home, Too!

The utilities are turned on, Your boxes are unloaded. Now it's time to make your new apartment homey!

Start by arranging the furniture just so. Next, add decorative touches to create the perfect environment. Finish by adding the right accessories for your pet.

Just like you need comfy places to rest, TV and computer for entertainment, access to exercise equipment and well-stocked cabinets and fridge, so does your pet.

When you’re planning the layout for your new home, keep in mind that it’s your pets home, too.

That being the case, you’ll want to make sure they have everything they need to rest and entertain themselves (especially when you’re working). And of course, they’ll need access to their favorite food and plenty of fresh water.

For dogs, placing pet beds in the main bedroom and living room is a must. When they’re not sleeping on your lap or curled up next to you, they have two spots of their own. That’s where they can relax and sleep until it’s time for you to come home.

Cats love the sunshine. They also enjoy watching birds, squirrels and the neighborhood. But most of all they love napping. Placing a cat tree or two near your windows allows them to enjoy all three of their favorite activities at the same time!

While dogs require some outdoor time to take care of their business, cats simply use a litter box. If you’re a one cat household, you’ll be fine with one litter box as long as you keep it clean and filled with fresh litter. On the other hand, if you have two cats, you’ll need two litter boxes. That way one box is always available for each cat.

Both dogs and cats love to play. While they often prefer to do it with you, there are times when you’ll be away from home. Be sure to keep plenty of toys around for your pets to enjoy while you’re away.

Cats love to bat small balls and mouse-shaped toys across the floor. They’re also fans of any toy that’s filled with catnip. And if you want to give them an extra special treat, grow some fresh cat grass on your windowsill.

Dogs love to chomp on a good bone and plush toys. Sometimes, they just like to cuddle up with their toys for companionship and comfort.

As a pet owner, it’s important for your cat or dog to feel just as happy and content as you do when you’re home. Be sure to give them these essentials to ensure they’re always happy at home.

2. Enjoy The Outdoors With Your Dog

Although your cat is happy to stay indoors and snuggle with you, your dog feels a bit differently.

Yes, they love being home with you. Curling up on the couch with you is one of their favorite things to do.

Still, they really love to spend some time outdoors, too!

Luckily, Bluffton and nearby Hilton Head Island are great places to walk your pooch, play fetch with them and enjoy a little bit of exercise for yourself.
